Unable to stop, pilot makes emergency landing in Ontario farm field

Ontario Provincial Police say a pilot was injured after he failed to stop on a grass runway and crash-landed in a farm field in Huron East last weekend.

Police said the crash happened just after 11:20 a.m. Saturday near Newry Road, about 70 kilometers northwest of Kitchener, Ont.

The OPP said the plane, piloted by a 68-year-old pilot from Central Huron, attempted to land on a grass runway in a nearby field but “could not stop before crossing Newry Road and hitting the ground on the other side of the field hit. the roadway.”

The pilot made an emergency landing on a farmland, police said.

He suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said emergency services initially believed there were three other passengers on board the plane, but it was later determined they were good Samaritans who had stopped to help the pilot.

“The OPP would like to express their gratitude for the assistance they provided at the scene,” police said.
