PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The patients at UPMC Children’s Hospital were treated to a surprise visit from some Steelers rookies on Tuesday!

The rookie class spent some time at the hospital getting to know the kids, doing crafts and playing games.

One of the players who brought joy to the children on the day was linebacker Payton Wilson.

Wilson said being able to give back to the community that cheers him on every week is truly rewarding.

“We’ve been here painting pictures and throwing the football around,” Wilson said. “It was just great to see how happy these kids are, and how happy we are to be here.”

In addition to having fun with the children, there was of course also time to take photos and sign autographs for the children and their families.

It’s one of many community projects the Steelers were a part of this week.

While the rookies visited UPMC Children’s Hospital, Larry Ogunjobi hosted a NIKE Stem x Shoe event to promote the importance of STEM education, something he studied during his time at the University of Charlotte.

“I just think the trajectory of the world and the way technology is evolving so much, it’s good to get the kids involved,” he said. “I think everything we have and everything we do is technology-based. I feel like if you start early, it gives them a chance to work things through.”

The Steelers return to action on Sunday night at Acrisure Stadium when they take on the New York Jets at 8:20 p.m.
