STEPSa nonprofit program, provides individualized education for children ages 6 to 20 who need to catch up before school starts. Students with disabilities or ESOL are welcome. Parents, grandparents and caregivers can register as many children as they need, from birth to age 5. PE lessons for homeschoolers are offered for children ages 5 to 14 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesdays at the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA and on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Middle Tyger YMCA. From 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, participants will take part in a physical fitness class with a warm-up, stretching, basic strength and endurance and a dynamic warm-up. Each week, students also work on developing sports skills by learning the basics of basketball, soccer, pickleball, volleyball, golf or another sport. From 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, participants will receive a guided swimming lesson based on skill and ability. For more information and registration, visit spartanburgymca.org/home-school-pe.

Team BlokHaven He offers indoor rock climbing for children aged 6 to 18 in a fun, supportive environment where young people build strength, resilience and self-confidence. Coaches are suitable for all levels, with an emphasis on personal growth and love for the sport. Competing is not required. For more information, you can participate in a no-obligation introductory training, which is held every first and third Friday of the month. Well, walkers is offered every Tuesday and Thursday in November, except November 26 and 28, at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The arena hall is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for anyone who wants a conditioned space to exercise. Each loop around the hall is a quarter mile. Well Walkers is a free event with no registration or prior notice required. There is free parking for participants in the VIP lot at the arena, located on Church Street. Small student club, available from the Greenville County Library System, is specifically designed for children under age 5 to encourage the development of preschool skills using the Palmetto Basics. Details can be found at greenvillelibrary.org/kids/little-learners-club.

Free books – Greenville First Steps has launched a pilot of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Greenville County. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an early literacy program that sends free age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth to age 5. Currently, children in Greenville County in 29690, 29611 and 29669 can sign up for the Imagination Library. Registration is available at ImaginationLibrary.com.

Art

Cold reading workshop for grades 3 – 12 is 9 a.m. – 12 noon December 14 at the Spartanburg Youth Theater. The cost is $55 each. Cold readings and script work are essential to the callback process, and becoming comfortable with both will help students feel more confident with each audition. Cold Readings are parts of dialogue or monologue from a script that the student has never seen before. Directors often use them in callbacks to look for bold choices that will make you stand out. This workshop provides individualized guidance from SYT staff with tips and tricks to ensure cold measurements don’t give you cold feet. Kimilee Bryant Studio accepts new students in voice and beginning piano. Voice students must be at least 7 years old and able to read. Coaching in the field of pageant (talent, interview and presentation) is also offered by appointment. Regular students participate in recitals and events throughout the year.
