Racing tips for Wednesday

  • BANGOR
    1.25: Autonomous cloud 6/1 One way (1pt)
    3.35: JungleJack 12/1 One way (1pt)
  • AYR
    2.15: I liked thinking about it 11/4 (1pt)

Autonomous cloud

Avoiding some of the tougher races early on in Bangor and focusing on the 3m Class 2 Handicap Chase first.

Things are going soft today, which will make things harder for some, but there are a few who can thrive today.

Shan Blue is the heavy favorite for the in-form Skeltons and despite being ten years old, he has now shown he is still capable by posting two tough close-range chases last season.

He was just 3/4 of a liter behind Triple Trade at Ascot in December before finishing third over 3m in the Grade 3 Swinley Handicap Chase at Ascot.

But I would prefer a higher price in a race like this and a race that really thrives on softer ground.

And that’s why I really like Autonomous Cloud, which has great endurance and proven form at over 4 meters, let alone 3 meters.

He came back from wind surgery last month and might have needed the run, but he didn’t shape up as if he would find it tough, especially as it was over fences, whereas now he is at a dangerous point over fences, which is very attractive is .

Royal Blue could also have a say for a similar price, but would be better viewed during the first outing of the season.

JungleJack

Then we have the Weatherbys And Birdie Calendars Handicap Hurdle, a Class 2 over an extended 2m3f.

With 11 runners it is an exciting race and one without a clear favorite, with prices starting at 4/1.

This offers huge potential for bettors for any style of play or even a straight bet if they have enough confidence in a particular runner or two.

JungleJack immediately stands out for his form in Bangor, winning twice and sitting a close second, including first over course and distance.

His price is also huge considering the eight-year-old is appearing at a workable level for the first time this season, just as he did when he won over course and distance in March 2023.

I liked thinking about it

Arctic row is the big favorite in a heavily contested pursuit with three riders in Ayr.

Of which the favorite on this circuit has superior form and wins four times over jumps, including three times over fences.

This will be his first attempt over this distance in Ayr and only his second attempt over 3 meters.

But the seven-year-old can make the odd mistake, falling and pulling up, most recently dismissing his rider on his season debut last month.

I liked thinking about it is the biggest prize of the three, but has had consistency already in the summer, making him a very big threat here.

He’s also previously beaten No Regrets over a similar distance at Cartmel in July, and while the weights are now in his favor, there’s not too much of a leap for me to suggest he can reverse that form.

Tom Lunn Win/Loss

  • October ’24: +21.57
  • From May ’24: +155.99 points
  • From July ’23: +368.55 points
