After taking the championship lead at Virginia International Raceway, Johnny O’Connell will be looking to consolidate his lead in the title race ahead of this weekend’s GT America powered by AWS races at Road America.

The SKI Autosports driver, who took third place in Virginia to claim victory, will enter the two 40-minute sprint races in Wisconsin with a narrow eight-point lead over Jason Daskalos in the SRO3 standings. Following the recent withdrawal of George Kurtz, this has now developed into a battle for the title.

Kurtz will again be absent from Road America, having withdrawn all of his CrowdStrike by Riley entries last time out at VIR.

A total of 19 cars are competing in this weekend’s race, including the debut of Regulator Racing driver Jeff Burton in the No. 91 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, the return of the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of James Sofronas and the Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R of Mirco Schultis.

In addition, Elias Sabo’s SRO3 model switches from an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo to a BMW M4 GT3.

As previously reported, Alan Grossberg is stepping up to the GT4 class in a new McLaren Artura GT4. He joins a seven-car class led by Rotek Racing’s Isaac Sherman, who has taken eight class wins from ten races to date in his Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.

Sherman holds a commanding 63-point lead over ACI Motorsports’ Curt Swearingin with six races remaining.

GT America competitors will have two test sessions at the four-mile Wisconsin circuit on Thursday, followed by practice on Friday, qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday.

Both races will be streamed live on SRO’S GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
