'World class' midfield 'engine' keeps two European giants on hold as he awaits United's call to seal dream move

Just like last summer, Sofyan Amrabat is anxiously awaiting a call from Manchester United.

Knowing that the club is actively looking for a cheap midfielder, Amrabat has put Turkish giants Fenerbach and Galatasaray on hold until he gets confirmation whether he will return to Old Trafford, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The 27-year-old ‘engine’ spent the entire 2023/24 season at United, making 30 appearances in all competitions, 17 of them as a starter. His final – and perhaps most memorable – appearance in red came when he was crowned FA Cup champions after playing the full 90 minutes of the Reds’ triumph at Wembley.

United have already turned down the chance to sign Amrabat permanently

However, INEOS directors decided not to activate Amrabat’s £21.4m buy-out clause, meaning he has now returned to parent club Fiorentina and begun preparations for the upcoming term.

The Florence club are reportedly seeking a lower fee if they part ways with the player, who was previously deemed “unreliable”. ‘world class’ by his national coach Walid Regragui – before the deadline.
