Class 2 boy electrocuted in Sira

A Class 2 boy who was playing near the school after attending the Independence Day celebrations reportedly died of electric shock in Sira taluk, Tumakuru district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Hemanth, 7, a resident of H. Kaval village, Sira taluk. On Thursday, while playing, he allegedly came in contact with the fencing around a transformer and was electrocuted. Though he was immediately rushed to a hospital, he was declared “dead”.

A senior Bescom official who visited the mortuary reportedly claimed that the boy did not die of electrocution, leading to protests by the family of the deceased and other villagers.

“The incident took place around 1 pm on Thursday. We received reports that the boy touched the branch wire of the transformer, received a shock and was taken to the hospital, where he died. When our officers later reached the spot, they found that there was no current flowing through the wire. Hence, we are waiting for the autopsy report before taking further action,” a senior Bescom official said.
