PARKERSBURG — The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) has announced further adjustments to school classifications for the 2024 football season, following a final order issued by the Review Board Monday night.

The Review Board, appointed by the West Virginia State Board of Education, reversed an earlier decision by the WVSSAC Board of Directors and granted waivers to 11 schools involved in the appeals process regarding the initial classification changes.

In addition to ordering the 11 waivers, the Review Board reversed further classification revisions based on cutoff scores for the 2024 football season, reclassifying an additional 12 schools.

On Tuesday, John Marshall, Oak Hill, Preston, St. Albans and Spring Valley moved up from Class AAAA to Class AAA, while Frankfort, Sissonville and Wayne moved up from Class AAA to Class AA.

Petersburg, St. Marys and Tyler Consolidated have been reclassified from Class AA to Class A.

The list of complete revisions includes:

From AAAA to AAA: Buckhannon Upshur, Capital, John Marshall, Oak Hill, Preston, Riverside, St. Albans, Spring Valley and South Charleston

From AAA to AA: Chapmanville, Frankfort, Independence, Lincoln, Nicholas County, PikeView, Sissonville and Wayne

From AA to A: Petersburg, Ritchie County, St. Marys, Summers County and Tyler Consolidated

“We have been working hard since Monday to work out the logistics and implications of the Board of Review mandate,” said David Price, Executive Director of WVSSAC. “We are now looking forward to starting the competitions here soon.”
