Five parties ready to fight in first parliamentary election after Uzbekistan’s reforms

Midterm elections are expected to test the pace of the country’s reform agenda

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 21, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Central Electoral Commission of the Republic Uzbekistan (CEC) has approved the participation of five parties in the October 27 poll that will elect a total of 150 MPs (deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oly Majlis) and nearly 6,000 members of local Councils of People’s Deputies. The parties, listed below in order of receipt of their qualifying documents via a special digital portal, each received the green light after submitting more than the required 40,000 signatures to the CEC.

  1. Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan;
  2. Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish”;
  3. Ecological Party of Uzbekistan;
  4. Democratic People’s Party of Uzbekistan;
  5. Social Democratic Party “Adolat”

Nizamkhodjaev Zayniddin, Chairman of the CEC, explained the importance of the diversity of choices available to citizens in the upcoming poll.
