Nokia expands TM’s international optical network to meet hyperscaler connectivity needs

  • Advanced optical backbone to enhance hyperconnectivity in data centers and support AI readiness, in line with TM’s strategic direction.
  • Nokia’s field-proven optical technology strengthens TM’s network capacity and performance, meeting the growing demand for lower latency data traffic.
  • TM aims to meet the demands of hyperscaler customers and become a leading provider of fast and reliable optical network services in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

August 22, 2024
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Nokia has been selected by TM to build a dedicated international optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network, improving management of growing data traffic and enhancing data center connectivity. Nokia’s industry-leading DWDM solution will enable TM to effectively support massive traffic surges and meet the increasing demand for cloud-based real-time and low-latency services and applications from its hyperscaler customers.

The new DWDM network will act as an express route for cross-border traffic, connecting the Malaysia-Thailand border with the Malaysia-Singapore border. It will provide hyper-connectivity to major data centres in Malaysia and a cable landing station to accommodate the exponential growth of data traffic in these countries. Once completed, the new network will help TM accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) to leverage automation for improved network performance and operations.
