Jayvon McFadden, 2025 4-star OL, commits to Ohio State football

Ohio State has added a new team to its offensive line class of 2025.

Maryland four-star guard Jayvon McFadden, 2025, announced his commitment to Ohio State via On3 on Saturday, choosing the Buckeyes over finalists Colorado, Florida, Maryland and South Carolina.

McFadden, a 6-foot-1, 300-pound lineman out of Riverdale Baptist High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is the 469th-ranked prospect in the class of 2025 and the 28th-ranked interior offensive lineman in the nation according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Ohio State offered McFadden in November after visiting for the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan State. He returned to campus for Ohio State’s spring game before taking his official visit the weekend of June 7.

McFadden is the first player to commit to Maryland from Ohio State since four-star defensive end Jason Moore signed with the Buckeyes in 2023.

Jayvon McFadden Commitment Analysis: What It Means for Ohio State

McFadden is the offensive lineman that Toledo four-star Carter Lowe wanted next to him at Ohio State.

“My boy, that’s my guy,” Lowe said in June. “He loves the ball, just like I do. You know, I’m kind of new to the game, but he’s got a lot of knowledge. He loves the game. So it would be crazy and really fun to play next to him. So I talk to him a lot. Hopefully he can be a Buckeye, too.”

With McFadden and Lowe in the fold, along with three-star center Jake Cook, Ohio State’s offensive line for 2025 is starting to take shape.

In the Ryan Day era, Ohio State has averaged four offensive linemen per recruiting class, a number the Buckeyes reached in 2024 with Ian Moore, Devontae Armstrong, Deontae Armstrong and Gabe VanSickle.

But it’s not exactly the trajectory Ohio State had in mind.

The Buckeyes recently lost five-star offensive tackles David Sanders Jr. (Tennessee) and Josh Petty (Georgia Tech). Lowe is the highest-rated commitment Frye has landed during his time at Ohio State and is one of eight four-star linemen to commit to the Buckeyes since 2023, two of which come from outside Ohio in VanSickle and Moore.

Ohio State has a tackle, a guard and its future center. But when it comes to depth, especially on the outside, the Buckeyes have more questions than answers as the 2025 class nears its end.
