He was an eight-time national champion and has a sensational record as a professional with 21 undefeated victories (17 KO’s). He has enormous talent and remarkable power.

The 23-year-old is moving up to world level in the 168-pound class, a division that has been dominated for years by pound-for-pound superstar Alvarez.

And American star Pacheco, who has enormous respect for the champion, stresses that his goal is to share the ring with today’s great boxer and dethrone him.

“It would obviously be a dream come true because Canelo is the king of the boxing world at the moment and has been for a number of years,” he told talkSPORT.com.

“I got to spar with him, be on his undercard and be around him. He’s seen me fight.

“Of course it would also be a dream to share the ring with him, especially for a world title. That is ultimately the goal.

“That’s where I want to go and if it were up to me, I think I’d be ready for the top ten at 168 pounds.

“It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but we have to keep going. I’m young, I’m 23 years old and I’m about to reach my peak.”

Pacheco takes the next step in his illustrious career when he takes on the adventurous Maciej Sulecki on August 31 in his hometown of Carson, California.

If he wins, he can continue his ascent to the top of the weight class, and chances are the boxing world will be eager to see him fight a top-class opponent.

At this stage of his career, Pacheco is gaining valuable experience as he has already sparred with players like Alvarez and David Benavidez.

He is convinced that this has given him a good foundation for the future and that he has learned valuable lessons for his further development.

“It was a great experience to share the ring with guys like him (Benavidez, Canelo),” he continued.

Former boxer Paulie Malignaggi predicts David Benavidez will ‘run over Canelo Alvarez like a train’ and doesn’t even want to watch the fight

“As long as I can remember I have always wanted to share the ring with the best, train with the best and compete with the best.

“I consider myself one of the best and that’s what it takes to be great and learn from it.

“Of course you have to create your own story and chart your own path by having your own style, but it’s important to learn from the greats.”

The future looks bright for the young talent who is on the tip of fans’ tongues and for promoter Eddie Hearn who sees him as a superstar in the making for Matchroom Boxing.

And he believes his upcoming opponent Sulecki will be the last to discover his fearsome skills and limitless talent.

He concluded: “Sulecki is a step forward for me compared to my last opponents. He has won world championships and is a veteran.

“But I feel like I’m the best fighter he’s ever fought and the best on his resume.

“And he will definitely notice that on August 31st. I feel like I am ready for that fight for the world title now.”
