Jahan Dotson understands that the NFL is a business. When the Washington Commanders traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles this week, he knew it wasn’t personal.

The wide receiver said he won’t dwell on the deal too much, but he will take it personally when the Eagles play the Commanders this season.

“I talked to Coach Dan Quinn and Mr. Adam Peters and they said they feel really positive about me,” Dotson said. “It’s just something that happens, you know. These things happen all the time in the NFL. I’m not going to take it personally until I see Washington.”

Dotson, a first-round pick by Penn State in 2022, spent the first two years of his career with the Commanders and was surprised to see his career end so abruptly.

“It was a shock, you know? Just because in the NFL, all I know is Washington Commanders,” he said. “But at the end of the day, it’s a business, and I understand that.”

But all he can do now is focus on getting better and helping the Eagles improve. Dotson is coming off a strong sophomore season, with 518 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He took a slight step back from his rookie year, when he had 523 yards and seven touchdowns, but he has shown early in his career what he is capable of.

The Eagles have two games against the Commanders this year, the first on November 14 and the second on December 22. Expect Dotson to improve his play for both games.

Until then, Philadelphia will try to start the year off right, with a season opener against the Green Bay Packers on September 6.

The Eagles appeared to be the best team in the NFL in their first 11 games, going 10-1 in that series. Things quickly fell apart, however, and Philadelphia finished the year at 11-6 and faced a wild-card exit against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs.

With Dotson, a talented wide receiver, the Eagles hope to achieve better results this year.
