Former director Sandip Ghosh undergoes CBI polygraph test, Roy's turn now

KOLKATA: CBI on Saturday issued a lie detector test about Sandip Ghosh, former director of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, as part of the investigation into the rape-murder of a post-doctoral fellow at the hospital on August 9. The agency will conduct the test on six others, including the main suspect Sanjay Royfour doctors and a civilian volunteer, report Rohit Khanna and Dwaipayan Ghosh.
A team of experts from New Delhi arrived in Kolkata in the morning to conduct the procedure, also known as lie detector tests, after getting court approval on Friday. A civilian volunteer who accompanied Roy to two neighbourhoods in the city before the alleged crime said the CBI has summoned him for the lie detector test.
“On August 9, we were supposed to go to the hospital for my brother’s treatment. But he didn’t show up. I tried to wake him up around 10am. He picked up my call at 12.10pm. When I told him about the crime, he seemed relaxed and cheerful. He started drinking alcohol around 2.30pm,” the volunteer said.
A CBI team visited Roy in the Presidency Jail. “The entire process was explained to him in the presence of the magistrate,” said his lawyer Sourav Bandyopadhyay of Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (South 24 Parganas).
According to CBI officials, the purpose of the test was to verify Ghosh’s statements about the events of August 8 and 9. The CBI also questioned ASI Anup Datta, who is said to be close to Roy.
