Class 6 student takes father’s gun to school in Najafgarh

Students and staff of a private school in Najafgarh in southwest Delhi were caught by surprise when a sixth-class student brought his father’s registered pistol to the school, police said on Sunday.

According to the police, they received a PCR call at Najafgarh police station on August 24. When the police team reached the spot, it was found that a student had his father’s pistol in his bag. The pistol did not have a magazine, it added.

The child’s mother, who was called to the school, said the licensed pistol had been purchased by her husband and its validity had expired a few months ago.

She added that it was kept outside and had to be taken to the police station. The mother further said that it was accidentally in her son’s bag.

When asked about it, the boy said he mistook the gun for a toy, an official said.

The police added that the pistol’s license was checked and found to be correct. No recognizable violation was found in the case. So, no case was registered.

Later, the firearm was handed over to the police malkhana by the child’s mother.
