Class 6 boy takes deceased father’s pistol to school in Delhi, mistaking it for toy gun

NEW DELHI: A boy studying in sixth grade accidentally took his father’s pistol to school in the city’s Dwarka area, thinking it was a “toy gun”, a Delhi Police official said on Sunday.

Fortunately, the gun had no magazine and even the 11-year-old boy did not try to use it.

Sharing details, Dwarka Deputy Superintendent of Police Ankit Singh said that a PCR call regarding the case was received at Najafgarh police station on August 24 following which police personnel reached the spot, namely Green Valley School, Deepak Vihar, Najafgarh.

“At school, it was found that a class 6 pupil had his father’s licensed pistol in his bag. The pistol did not have a magazine,” the DCP said.

The boy’s mother had already been summoned by the school management and was present at school.

She told police the gun belonged to her late husband, who had purchased the gun and also had the gun license.

“Her husband had passed away a few months ago and today she had left the gun outside to drop it off at the police station. The gun was accidentally in her son’s school bag,” the officer said.

When officers asked the boy about it, he replied, “I thought it was a toy.”

The police checked the licence of the pistol which was found to be correct and no recognizable offence was found in the case. The pistol was later deposited by the mother in the Maalkhana of Baba Hari Das Nagar on the same day.
