6th grade student mistakes gun for toy and takes it to school

A 10-year-old class 6 student had brought a pistol licensed by his late father to his school in Delhi’s Najafgarh, thinking it was a toy gun, police said on Sunday.

School officials found the pistol, without a magazine, in his bag on Saturday.

The boy’s mother, who was called by school officials, said her husband owned the licensed gun.

“The woman said her husband had died a few months ago and she had kept the gun outside to deposit it at the police station,” a police officer said.

According to the police, no criminal offence was committed and the mother handed over the pistol at the Baba Haridas Nagar police station on Saturday.
