Nottingham Forest have made an improved offer for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez as the company looks to bolster its attacking power.

Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah was seen as a potential target and the club made a £25million bid for the England international, who has only played one international match, earlier this month.

However, negotiations between the two Premier League clubs have stalled and Nuno Espirito Santo continues to pursue Gimenez.

Forest have offered around £28million for the Mexico international.

Argentine-born Gimenez began his career at Mexican side Cruz Azul, before being brought to the Eredivisie by then Feyenoord manager Arne Slot in the summer of 2022.

In his first season at De Kuip, Gimenez played a key role in winning the club’s first league title in six years, scoring 15 goals in 32 games as the club finished seven points ahead of league leaders PSV.

Gimenez followed up his impressive debut season in the Netherlands with another productive campaign in 2023-24, which saw him finish third in the league’s top scorers list with 24 goals.

The 23-year-old player started all three of Feyenoord’s league matches this season and scored twice in the Johann Cruijff Shield match against PSV.

Should Gimenez move to the City Ground, he will have to compete for a place in the starting line-up with the likes of Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Forest are unbeaten this season, having won their opening weekend draw against Bournemouth 1-0 at Southampton on Saturday.
