IndiGo, which placed the world’s largest aircraft order for 500 A320neo aircraft in June last year and another order for 30 A350 wide-body aircraft in April this year, is reportedly in talks with ATR for another 100 aircraft for its growing region.

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, is now taking steps towards inclusivity by introducing a gender-neutral option for passengers during the booking process. IndiGo will soon offer an honorific ‘Mx’ option at the time of booking for passengers, providing a choice for transgenders who do not wish to identify themselves.

Air India Express and Vistara already offer passengers the ‘Mx’ option while booking their tickets.

The airline also aims to double the number of employees with disabilities, further strengthening its commitment to inclusiveness.

IndiGo also continues to introduce innovative products and services to enhance the passenger experience and strengthen its market position. Over the past year, the airline has made progress in several areas, including:

Introducing Business Class:

  • IndiGo is all set to launch its first business class service, capitalising on the growing demand for premium travel options in India.
  • This new offering is designed to provide a more luxurious and comfortable experience for business travelers and high-spending tourists.
  • The business class, called ‘IndiGo Stretch’, will be offered on 12 routes including Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai from mid-November
  • Bookings for business class open from August 6 for travel from November 14 onwards and fares start at Rs 18,018.
  • Meals for the premium business class are provided by Oberoi Hotels.

Seats for women only:

  • Thanks to a new booking feature from IndiGo, women no longer have to sit next to men on the plane.
  • Women are shown pink icons during online check-in, indicating where other women are seated.
  • This allows them to adjust their seat selection to avoid sitting next to a man. The function is only visible to female passengers.

Loyalty program:

  • IndiGo launched the much-awaited loyalty program IndiGo BluChip, which offers members exclusive benefits and rewards.
  • The frequent flyer program allows travelers to earn points and use them to purchase seats.

7 new international destinations

  • IndiGo will expand its international footprint with seven new destinations in the current financial year. Currently, IndiGo operates over 2,000 flights daily, connecting around 120 destinations, including 33 international cities.
  • IndiGo has also started flights to Jaffna, Sri Lanka, making it the airline’s second destination in the country after Colombo. Jaffna will also be IndiGo’s 34th international and 122nd overall destination. Bookings for this route began on August 1, 2024.
