Despite the efforts of the emergency services and a trauma helicopter, a thirty-year-old man died on the spot.

A local resident described the tragic victim as a “good guy” who has lived in the area for almost a decade.

The Metropolitan Police have now arrested two men, aged 21 and 28, on suspicion of murder.

They will remain in custody until the investigation is completed.

Police have cordoned off the area and a crime scene remains in place.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 3.38pm on Wednesday 28 August to reports of a fight in Rushmore Road, E5.

Officers, the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance attended the scene and found a man, in his 30s, who had suffered stab wounds.

“Despite the great efforts of the emergency services, he was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

“His relatives have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“Officers arrested two men – (A) aged 28 and (B) aged 21 – nearby on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody at an east London police station.

“At this time, it is still a crime scene.

“Investigations are still ongoing to find out all the facts.”

Detective Chief Inspector James Conway, responsible for Hackney and Tower Hamlets policing, added: “Our investigation is at an early stage and my detectives are working hard to establish the circumstances of what happened this afternoon.

“If anyone has any information about this tragic incident, I urge them to come forward and talk to us. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously if you have any information.

“A number of streets have been closed off while our investigation continues and I am grateful for the patience of local residents in Clapton.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time. The public can expect there to continue to be significant police activity in the area as we continue our thorough investigation.”
