After sharing the spotlight with the CFMEU, the Greens set their sights on the Labor seats

A first-term Greens MP is confident the party will increase its Brisbane vote in the Queensland election, listing the seats it is targeting.

At the 2020 election, Amy MacMahon won the coveted seat of South Brisbane, previously held by Labor Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, joining Greens MP Michael Berkman in parliament.

The Greens went on to win more federal seats in Brisbane at the 2022 election. Their members attracted attention when they joined CFMEU members at a rally this week to protest government interference in the union’s affairs.

MacMahon this week defended the Greens’ involvement in the demonstration, saying “the legislation the Labor government brought through last week was shocking, undemocratic and draconian”.

MacMahon questioned why a Labor government would target a union and not “big business”. He said the Greens were planning to capitalize on anti-Labor sentiment at the state election.

MacMahon told Brisbane Times The Greens could also take over Cooper, McConnell, Greenslopes and Miller from Labor at the October 26 election.
