Lady whose GPA dropped to 2.2 secures first class in civil engineering at the University of Nigeria

A young lady, Chinonso Theresa Okonkwo, became one of the history makers in her department after obtaining a first class degree in Civil Engineering from UNN.

Chinonso, a data analyst, celebrated her academic achievement on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a screenshot of a booklet showing that she completed her studies with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.69.

Chinonso survived an early scare

Chinonso, recalling her early years at school, said her first year at UNN felt like a breeze. She recalled how her grades dropped and her examination officer wondered what had happened. In her own words:

“…Funny how I went to UNN without any fear,

“The first year felt like a breeze, but what a challenge still lay ahead of me.

“When I started my second year, I was a complete mess.

“Remember when I requested a freshman transcript and my test supervisor kept asking me what happened, I really couldn’t answer. How could a 5.0GPA go down to 2:2.

“Second class lower…”

Chinonso didn’t give up and eventually her grades started to improve again. She said she finished third best in her department.

Lady achieves first class in civil engineering

In the meantime, Legitim.ng It was previously reported that a lady with a first degree in civil engineering had graduated from Southern Texas University.

The lady attended and graduated from secondary school in Nigeria as a commerce student. In a post she made on TikTok, Jaydiran said that after she started her studies, she lost her parents and had to take a break from school in 2022. She said:

“The journey to this day has not been without its challenges. It has been far from easy. When I graduated from high school as a commerce student in Nigeria, I made the bold decision to change my path to science despite the delays it entailed (my mother made the transition so easy), but little did I know that the biggest obstacle would be the loss of my parents in 2022, forcing me to take a break from school.”
