Investigation into man left dead for hours in Sandwell Hospital coffee shop

An NHS Trust is investigating after reports emerged of a man lying dead on a table in a hospital coffee shop for hours.

The man, 36, was found dead at the table in July at Sandwell General Hospital in West Bromwich, The Times newspaper reported.

It was said that members of the public and NHS staff, including doctors and nurses, continued to use the cafe around the unnamed man. A security guard realised he had not moved for more than three hours, but when he tried to wake him up he found there was no pulse.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s sudden death on hospital grounds.

Earlier that day, the man had been treated at the hospital and then referred to an adult mental health facility across the street, the newspaper reported.

According to the foundation, a coroner had been notified of the man’s death.
