Scottie Scheffler wins Tour Championship title, takes home FedEx Cup and £19m prize money

Scottie Scheffler won the £19 million FedEx Cup after taking the Tour Championship title in Atlanta.

Scheffler started the season-ending event at 10 under par and was never in real trouble.

With a 67 in the final round at East Lake he finished on 30 under par, four strokes ahead of Collin Morikawa, with Sahith Theegala in third.

Rory McIlroy finished lower on the scoreboard at 16 under, the same score as Shane Lowry.

Scheffler was the dominant player in golf this year, winning the Masters for the second time, winning the Players Championship back-to-back times and winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

In 2024, he won seven PGA Tour events, the most in 17 years, setting a standard not seen since the heyday of Tiger Woods.

Scheffler entered the final round with a five-stroke lead and he showed no signs of letting it go.

Reflecting on his victory, Scheffler said: “We worked hard to get to this point and it’s been a long week.

“I’m just really tired at the moment, so I don’t really know how to put it into words. But it’s a really special feeling to finally hold the trophy.

“I feel like I’ve lived almost a lifetime in this one year. It’s been crazy.

“I don’t know, I think it always comes back to my faith. I think that’s what just keeps me grounded, keeps me in the right frame of mind.”

Scheffler lost strokes on holes seven and eight, but three consecutive birdies got him back on track.

“I got off to a good start and then obviously had the two holes on holes seven and eight, and Teddy (Scheffler’s caddie Ted Scott) did a good job of keeping me focused.

“I’m not going to give away all our secrets, but Teddy has always been my biggest supporter.

“I think the results speak for themselves after he was able to pick up my bag and start helping me out. He’s really a big part of the team.

“I don’t know if I could do any of this without him on my bag. We have a great relationship.

“He has a habit of saying the right thing at the right time, which keeps me in the right frame of mind.”
