An update on the Flamanville EPR: start of reactor divergence operations

September 2, 2024 – The Nuclear Safety Authority has granted EDF the divergence agreement to continue divergence operations on the Flamanville 3 reactor. The power plant’s teams are starting the activities necessary for the first nuclear reaction in the reactor.

After the reactor was loaded last May, Flamanville EPR teams performed numerous technical tests and brought the facilities into the required conditions to start nuclear fission.

Divergence means that a stable nuclear reaction occurs at very low power. Once the reactor is ready, it will be at 0.2% of its nominal power.
