Can the Oasis reunion happen sooner?

The Oasis reunion could happen sooner than expected.

The Britpop-era band ended a 15-year hiatus last week by announcing a tour of the British Isles for next summer. On Saturday, 17 shows were sold out after Oasis fans scrambled to get tickets.

However, Liam and Noel Gallagher, the once-feuding brothers who are the face of Oasis, could share the stage together much sooner if a Saudi boxing promoter has his way.

Liam will perform a series of hits at Wembley Stadium in London on September 21 ahead of the heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois in a crowd of over 90,000.

Turki Alalshikh, the Saudi adviser who organises boxing matches for the kingdom, said on Monday he wants Noel to be at Wembley too.

“It will be a great thing if we get them together,” the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority said in an interview with British radio station talkSPORT. “We will try, we will try. Why not?”

Oasis representatives did not immediately respond when contacted by The Associated Press.

Oil-rich Saudi Arabia has become a major player in the world of sport, luring top footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar to the kingdom, launching its own golf league and hosting many high-profile boxing matches with lucrative prize money on offer.

Online ticketing sites struggled for 15 years due to demand for Oasis’ first shows, with prices starting at around £74 (just under $100) and going up to a £506 ($666) package that included a pre-show party and merchandise. All tickets sold out.

There are still some tickets available for the fight between Joshua and Dubois.
