FIRST LOOK AT REDLANDS: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Marianne Faithfull are reimagined as actors who transform into rockers for a new play about The Rolling Stones’ infamous drug trial

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Marianne Faithfull reprise their roles in a thrilling new play about The Rolling Stones’ infamous 1967 drug trial.

Chichester Festival Theatre has released the first photos from Redlands, featuring Jasper Talbot, Brenock O’Connor and Emer McDaid as they take on the legendary rockers.

And if the photos are to be believed, it looks like the trio will be doing everything they can to best portray their characters as the story of the English rock band and their trial is brought to the stage.

Jasper, who plays frontman Mick Jagger, teleported himself back to the 1960s for the photoshoot, sporting a bright yellow jacket and polka-dot shirt in one shot, with a cigarette in his mouth.

Not afraid of clashing patterns, the striking jacket was paired with black and white checked trousers.

In another photo he posed in a brown fur coat, with his brown locks in a hairstyle very reminiscent of that era.

He makes his theatre debut in this role and recently graduated from RADA.

Brenock, who has appeared on TV in Alex Rider, Living the Dream and Game of Thrones, also rocked a number of colourful ensembles as he transformed into guitarist Keith Richards, complete with a thin white scarf.

The actor sported a head of curly hair and fully embraced his role in a pair of black Doc Marten boots as the trio posed for photos.

Meanwhile, Emer McDaid, who starred in Witness For The Prosecution (London County Hall) and Game Of Thrones, among others, looks eerily similar to Marianne in a long red, black and white checked coat in photos with the band members.

In another photo, the gorgeous actress poses in a silk dress, complete with a caftan with embroidered flowers.

The description of the play, which is a fictional account of true events, reads:

‘In the quiet market town of Chichester, the most famous members of the world’s most notorious rock group are on trial.

‘1967. At Keith Richards’ Redlands country house in the heart of West Sussex, the Rolling Stones enjoy a bohemian night out with the likes of Marianne Faithfull and George Harrison, until the police charge Keith and Mick Jagger with drugs offences.

‘Only one man can defend the two icons of the 1960s revolution: Michael Havers, leading QC and future Attorney General.

‘But the commotion also puts his own relationship with his son, the ambitious teenage actor Nigel Havers, in the spotlight, who has fallen under Marianne’s influence…

‘This exuberant, psychedelic and hugely entertaining account of perhaps the most bizarre English court case ever, evokes a turning point in cultural history and the conflict between generations.’

The drugs raid on a party at guitarist Keith Richards’ house in Sussex nearly led to the band’s demise.

“That drug raid really damaged me,” Marianne said earlier. “It damaged our relationship and (four years later) I was living on the streets as a drug addict” (2016 photo)

Mick and Keith were arrested and jailed for possession of cannabis and amphetamines, but were acquitted on appeal.

Jagger’s 20-year-old friend Marianne was transformed into one of the country’s most notorious scarlet women after the raid.

There were stories about drugs and, as is well known, about Marianne being found naked except for the fur blanket she was wrapped in. And then we haven’t even mentioned the spicy rumors about Marianne and a Mars.

Marianne was present when Sussex officers visited Richard’s home, Redlands, but was not arrested herself, although she appeared in court every day to support Mick.

She was in a relationship with Mick for four years, until 1970. She blames the failure of their relationship and her subsequent spectacular downfall on the drug trial.

“That drug bust really damaged me,” she previously told Q magazine. “It damaged our relationship and (four years later) I was living on the streets as a drug addict. Do I blame anyone or anything for that? I blame the Redlands thing, yes.”

Charlotte Jones, who wrote the play, has worked on The Meeting (CFT 2018) and the multi-award-winning Humble Boy (National Theatre, West End and Broadway).
