Ayomide Adeleye, a level 200 student of Philosophy at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, has been arrested for the kidnap and murder of Christianah Idowu, a level 300 student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

It is said that they knew each other from attending the same church in Ogun State.

Christianah left her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu to attend the University of Lagos (UNILAG) where she pursued an industrial training

En route, she encountered heavy rainfall and sought shelter at Adeleye’s family shop, which was close to his home.

A source said Adeleye, who knew Christianah through their shared school and church community, invited her to his home when the rain started to fall harder.

While inside, Adeleye tried to attack her, but when she resisted, he killed her.

After her disappearance, Adeleye reportedly contacted Christianah’s family through her phone and demanded a ransom of 3 million naira, which was later reduced to 350,000 naira.

However, his attempt to extort money led to his arrest as intelligence officers were able to track down the kidnapper using his bank details and BVN information obtained when he collected the ransom.

The case has sparked outrage, with many calling for swift justice for Christianah and a stronger approach to gender-based violence in Nigeria.
