2025 Mr. Basketball Candidate Joins Jacksonville State

One of the state’s top basketball prospects is staying home.

Central-Phenix City star Jacoby Hill committed to Jacksonville State on Saturday morning.

Last season as a junior, Hill averaged 23.2 points, 6 rebounds and 5.5 assists for the Red Devils, while also making 54 blocks and having 84 steals.

He was named first-team all-state guard by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in 2023 and 2024.

According to his recruiting page, 247Sports lists Hill as a three-star prospect, with the guard choosing Jax State over offers from Alabama, UAB, Mississippi State and Oregon, among others.

Last season, Central-Phenix City reached the Class 7A Final Four, but lost to eventual state champion Hoover. In the Class 7A Central Regional final, he totaled 30 points and nine rebounds in a 62-60 win over Auburn.

In 2023, he scored 32 points against Spain Park in the team’s Class 7A state semifinal and 37 points in the Class 7A final against eventual state champion Hoover.

Jacksonville State finished last season with a 14-18 aggregate and a 6-10 mark in its first season in Conference USA. In the first round of the CUSA tournament, it lost to Florida International.
