Dalit student beaten by teacher: Outrage and legal action in Meerut | Meerut News

Meerut teacher beats up Dalit boy, suspended

MEERUT: ONE lecturer was suspended and charged after allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old Dalit student on Tuesday at a government secondary school in Meerut. Vikesh Kumar Singh30, allegedly hit the boy with sticks during class, leaving him with bruises all over his face and back. The incident, which took place on Saturday, gained attention after photos of the student’s injuries surfaced online.
Singh was suspended following an inter-departmental inquiry by the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Asha Chaudharyheld him responsible for the attack. The student’s father, Charan Singh, filed a complaint, alleging that officers at Bhawanpur police station initially refused to file an FIR. He then approached Meerut’s SSP, Vipin Tada, who ordered the police to file the case and investigate further.
SP (rural), Rakesh Kumar Mishra, said, “An FIR has been lodged under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and section 352 BNS (intentional insult with intent to provoke), along with provisions of the SC/ST Act. The investigation is now under the circle officer.”
Chaudhary confirmed the findings of the inquiry and said, “Rajpura education officer conducted the inquiry and the teacher was found guilty.”
However, the teacher claimed that the allegations were baseless. “I was teaching class 8 when I was told that two students from class 7 were fighting. I asked them to sit down but did not physically punish anyone,” he said.
Charan Singh doubted the teacher’s story and said, “If the teacher didn’t hit my son, who did? How did he get those bruises? He must be lying. My son is still terrified of going to school.”
