Faletau aims for return in October after long injury spell

Faletau has played 104 caps for Wales and five Tests for the British and Irish Lions since making his international debut in 2011.

He still wants to play for Wales, although he says he has not yet had long-term talks with Gatland about playing for the 2027 World Cup.

“The amount of time I missed makes me still feel like I have something to prove,” Faletau said.

“I hope and feel that I can do it. I think I have more to offer.

“As long as my body holds up, I want to continue playing for a while.

“I think it’s unfinished business. I still feel like I can play. I still enjoy it and want to continue, otherwise I wouldn’t do it.

“The last few weeks I’ve been able to train with the boys and it’s just nice to have a ball in your hands.”

Faletau has also not given up hope of a fourth British and Irish Lions tour to Australia next summer.

“Yes, why not? The most important thing is to get back on the field,” Faletau said.

“That’s where you can make a difference. If you’re not on it, you have no hope.

“The main goal is to get back on the pitch with Cardiff, stay fit and have a good season.”

Faletau is preparing for his third season at Cardiff since joining from Bath, having made 14 appearances in his first campaign but has only featured once in 2023-24.

“I haven’t had much to do with the boys yet due to my injury last year, but it’s exciting to be with them and try to build on last year’s season,” added Faletau.

“During the meetings and when you go to training, it’s an exciting place to be at that time.”
