Rutherford County student charged after another student injured in stabbing

A student was injured in a stabbing incident during class change Friday at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, the school district said.

The stabbing occurred around 8:30 a.m., said Lisa Marchesoni, spokeswoman for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

“This morning there was an isolated incident between two students,” Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said in an email. “One student stabbed the other student in the shoulder with an object.”

The victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment, Evans said. The other student was taken into custody at the scene by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Student Resource Officer and charged with aggravated assault.

Evans said the school activated its safety protocols and that after the situation was resolved, the school district sent a message to all parents to keep them informed.

At 10:45 a.m. the school resumed normal activities.
