PA Supreme Court says undated and misdated ballots will be rejected in victory for election integrity

Republicans see the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling as a victory for voter integrity, while opponents say it could disenfranchise some voters.

The court ruled that ballots that were not dated or were incorrectly dated would not be counted in the upcoming election if they were incorrectly or undated.

‘This makes voting by mail in the Keystone State less susceptible to fraud.’

Republicans said the ruling would make it harder to fraud elections in the key state, but those on the left say the rule is likely to allow Democratic votes to be unfairly thrown out.

Michael Whatley, chairman of the Republican National Committee, praised the measure on social media.

“MAJOR victory for election integrity in Pennsylvania. Following legal action by the RNC and (the Pennsylvania Republican Party), the PA Supreme Court has DENIED a Democratic effort to count undated ballots,” Whatley wrote.

“This makes voting by mail in the Keystone State less susceptible to fraud. We will keep fighting and winning!” he added.

The chief counsel for the Pennsylvania ACLU sharply criticized the ruling.

“Today’s procedural ruling is a setback for the voters of Pennsylvania, but we will continue to fight for them,” said Steve Loney. “The votes of these eligible voters who returned their ballots on time must be counted and their voices must be heard. The fundamental right to vote is one of the most precious rights we enjoy as Pennsylvanians, and it should cost more than a trivial paperwork error to take it away.”

An independent group reported that as many as 4,400 mail-in ballots were rejected in the state’s primary elections due to dating issues.
