Married at First Sight star Alex Henry has been jailed after giving up his job to take part in the Channel 4 dating show.

The RAF pilot left his post at an electronic warfare base for love – or fame – and appeared on television despite his commanding officer’s refusal.

He was stationed at RAF Spadeadam in Cumbria and applied for extra leave to take part, but this was refused.

The 28-year-old Birmingham man was arrested by military police upon his return and served 24 of his 34-day sentence.

His spokesman told The Sun: ‘He returned of his own accord after filming and handed himself in to military authorities.

‘He was sentenced to 34 days in a military prison, of which he served 24 days as a model prisoner.’

When he appeared on the show, it was flooded with accusations of abuse from social media users after his video was shared online.

Someone commented: ‘@alexander.henry_ should never have been on this show.’

She added: ‘In situations where people are married at first sight, it is absolutely not acceptable to allow a domestic abuser onto the show.

“I have seen first hand the damage this man has caused. Something needs to be done about this. @e4mafsuk @e4grams domestic abusers should NOT be given platforms.”

Another wrote: ‘This is why background checks should ALWAYS be done and previous partners etc contacted, the trauma he caused other women can be passed on to someone you allowed to be on your show. Do better next time.’

A spokesperson for MAFS UK said: ‘MAFS UK contributors are subject to a rigorous background check, including multiple independent psychological evaluations and a criminal record check, before being allowed to take part.

“We select candidates based on the information we legally have access to and we continue to evaluate this process to ensure the checks are as thorough as legally possible.”

MailOnline has contacted Alex Henry for further comment.
