How to approach Taiwan: Chinese state TV shows what a PLA attack could look like

A documentary aired on Chinese state television has revealed what an amphibious landing assault on Taiwan could look like just like the People’s Liberation Army accelerates training for such a maneuver.

The latest episode of the documentary series Extinguish On Monday evening, footage was shown of exercises by the ground forces, the navy and the PLA missile brigade, and a detailed description was given of how a landing would be carried out.

Some of the most important operations included a large-scale helicopter airstrike by the Ground Forces Air Force unit, electronic anti-access security measures by an aircraft carrier strike group, and a long-range missile firing exercise.

The 20-minute program began with a soldier expressing nostalgia for a united country and lamenting that the island of Taiwan and the mainland are still separated.

The program then detailed how reconnaissance and attack drones would be used to help the helicopters land troops on the island. Beijing views Taiwan as part of its territory, to be brought under mainland control by force if necessary.

The documentary showed that at the beginning of the simulated operation, the PLA deployed drones at high altitude, while helicopters flew close to sea level to get frogmen as close as possible to the coast of the intended landing areas.
