‘Hundreds’ of Coles customers left empty-handed for days due to IT outage

‘Hundreds’ of Coles customers left empty-handed for days due to IT outage

Hundreds of Coles Online customers have reportedly been billed twice for their delivery orders due to an IT glitch, with one customer going so far as to default on her car insurance.

The anonymous customer from South Australia told 7NEWS.com.au that the $300 purchase amount was debited from her bank account twice.

She said she called customer services as soon as she noticed and was told that Coles had not charged her twice, but that the payment had been taken from her account twice due to an IT glitch, but that she would not get her money back for several days.

The customer said she needed the extra $300 for her car insurance and that because of Coles’ mistake, she will now be driving an uninsured car until the amount wrongly debited is paid back.

She said the Coles Online customer service representative told her the issue was affecting “hundreds” of people who had placed orders before Monday.

7NEWS.com.au understands the error occurred nationwide.

A Coles spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au on Tuesday: “We are aware of a payment issue which has resulted in some customers being charged twice for an online purchase they made yesterday.

Coles is proactively contacting all Coles Online customers affected by this and we are working urgently to reverse the additional charges.

“We understand the impact this issue may have and offer our sincere apologies to all of our customers who have been affected.”
