Class Notes: Stetson University Signs Partnership for Naming Rights for Arena

Insight Credit Union And Stetson University have announced the signing of a multi-year naming rights partnership for the arena in the Edmunds Center on the Stetson campus. Effective immediately, Stetson’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams will play in the Insight Credit Union Arena at the Edmunds Center.

The Edmunds Center opened during the 1974-75 school year. This past summer, the arena underwent Phase 1 of a renovation project, which included updates to the seating, restrooms, locker rooms, flooring and sound system.

Schools in Volusia County has the Volusia Assistance & Prevention Education Program (VAPE Program)The VAPE program aims to address the growing problem of substance abuse by providing students with comprehensive support and educational resources.

By raising awareness among students and parents about the risks and consequences of substance abuse, VCS aims to create a more informed and cautious community. The program will provide factual information about the lasting effects of substance abuse, emphasizing the importance of early intervention to reduce recurrence of such behavior. The goal is to create a supportive environment that promotes healthier choices and long-term well-being for students.

The last round of open houses will take place the week of September 23rd. This will be for Volusia County High Schools. The information available for those West Volusia High Schools is as follows: The Land High 5:30-7:30 PM Tuesday, September 24; Pine Ridge High in Deltona 6:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, September 25; and University High School in Orange City 5:30-7:00 PM Sept. 25

Deltona High And Taylor Middle-High held their open days earlier in the school year.

West Volusia High School Football

On Friday, September 6, the football team of University High in Orange City to 3-0 for the young season as they Pine Ridge34-0, with the match ending at halftime due to lightning. The The Land Bulldogs to 2-1, with a 35-28 win over Merritt Island. Matanzas defeated Deltona High14-7, which went to 1-1, while Deltona Trinity Christian went to 1-3 when Harvest Community defeated them 28-26. Taylor Middle-High in Pierson had the night off.

The matches scheduled for September 20 are The Land greeting Deltona, Deltona Trinity Christian host Keswick Christian of St. Petersburg, Pine Ridge host of Lake Brantley, and University traveling to Eau Gallie in Melbourne. All games are at 7pm. Check these games before you go as many people have found that there were several changes due to weather during the week of September 6th.

West Volusia High School Cross Country

Three of the West Volusia cross-country teams traveled to New Smyrna Beach High School on September 7 for the Joe McKinney Invitational. DeLand boys came third, while the Lady Bulldogs were fourth. The Deltona boys were seventh, while the Pine Ridge Boys were eighth. The Pine Ridge girls team did not have enough runners to form a team, and Deltona there were no girls running.

DeLand’s Connor York in 10th place with a time of 17:56.3, while SydneyBordeaux also finished 10th for the girls from DeLand, with a time of 22:21.7.

Race TellesDeltona finished seventh with a time of 17:48.6, while Anthony Amato was the top runner for the Pine Ridge boys with a time of 22:18.2. Jackie Kemp was the top female runner for Pine Ridge with a time of 24:21.3.

Athletics at DeLand High School

The DeLand High School’s Lady Bulldog volleyball team lost their first match of the season against Osceola 3-1 (18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 19-25), while Winter Park defeated the team from DeLand 3-2 (25-21, 16-25, 25-18, 21-25, 8-15).

The DeLand High Girls Golf Team stopped University 210-232.

Saturday September 21st is the Bulldog swimmers at the Lake Brantley Invitational starting at 7am

Monday September 23rd is the girls golf team at the Volusia/Flagler tournament, while the boys golf team goes to the Winter Springs Invitational.

On Wednesday September 25th the DHS bowlers will host Flagler Palm Coast at 3:45 p.m.; the boys golf team competes in New Smyrna Beach at 3:30 p.m.; the girls golf team Mainland organizes at 3:30 pm; the volleyball team greets Hagerty at 5:30pm and 7:00pm; while the swimmers host university at 4:00 p.m.

Thursday September 26th is the DeLand JV Soccer Team host to Spruce Creek at 6:00 p.m. and on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28, the volleyball team will be present at the Pink Blast Tournament.

Stetson University

For the 10th year in a row, Stetson University has been named one of The Princeton Review’s 390 Best Colleges in America for 2025, a distinction bestowed on only about 15 percent of four-year institutions. Stetson was selected based on “outstanding academic performance,” as well as surveys of its students and poll data from college administrators.

Stetson University Athletics

The Stetson University Hatter men’s soccer team was defeated by the College of Charleston, 3-2, with Rafael Pinzon And Maurice Hauser scored the Hatter goals. The team then lost 2-1 to Georgia Southern, with Hauser scoring the lone goal.

The Hatter football team their season record to 2-0, as the team defeated Warner 35-0. The offense totaled 508 yards, 392 of which came via the passing game.

The Lady Hatter Soccer Team was eliminated by Oklahoma, 7-0, but bounced back with a 3-1 win over South Carolina State, with Stella Comana, Lea Alexander And Georgia place kicking the Stetson goals.

The volleyball team lost to UCF, 3-0, (21-25, 23-25, 25-27); but defeated North Carolina Wilmington, 3-0, (25-18, 25-17, 25-23).

Stetson football player Daniel Holbrook was named Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week. He scored 11 points in Stetson’s season-opener win.

Culver’s DeLand will sponsor one game each season for the men’s and women’s soccer teams, men’s and women’s basketball teams, baseball, softball and beach volleyball.

Saturday September 21st is the women’s tennis team at the ITA All-American Tournament; the volleyball team at the Boca tournament; the men’s soccer team host of North Florida at 7:00 p.m.; and the soccer team at Harvard.

Sunday September 22nd is the women’s soccer team in North Florida at 1:00 p.m.

On Monday September 23rd the women’s golf team will compete at 8:30 a.m. at Jacksonville U.

Tuesday September 24th the volleyball team home against Florida Gulf Coast at 5:00 p.m., and the men’s soccer team Greetings Eckerd College at 7:00 PM

Thursday, September 26, sends the women’s soccer team to Bellarmine at 7pm

On Friday September 27th the cross country teams will be attending the FSU Pre-Regional Meet, the women’s tennis team will be attending the Bedford Cup in Fort Myers, and the volleyball team will play at home against West Georgia at 5:00 p.m.
