KUALA LUMPUR: Rosli Abdullah, acting deputy director-general of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) operational functions, was yesterday appointed as the seventh director-general.

MMEA said in a statement today that Rosli has nearly three decades of experience in maritime security and is an expert in planning and executing maritime operations, particularly in the fight against cross-border crime such as illegal immigration, drug and smuggling, and maritime piracy.

“One of his greatest achievements was leading Operation Pelantar Merah, which resulted in high-profile arrests and a reduction in crime around oil platforms in the country’s waters.

“Recently, he has led the development of the maritime surveillance system in the waters off Sarawak and the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, aimed at improving radar accessibility to monitor all suspicious vessel movements in national waters, particularly in the South China Sea,” MMEA said.

Rosli has held various key positions within the agency, including Selangor Maritime Director, Maritime Intelligence Director, Maritime Strategic Planning Director, Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director and Director of the Maritime Safety and Surveillance Department.
