Huntsville Player of the Week: Two-time star earns honors in Week 4

The Huntsville Times Football Player of the Week for Week 4 performed exceptionally on both ends of the field during a key regional game last Friday, winning the most votes in AL.com’s weekly poll.

Graham Batey of Randolph received 59 percent of the 11,808 votes cast in the poll to top the list. Batey had 186 rushing yards with four touchdowns and caught three passes for 47 yards and another score as the Raiders won their third straight game – all in Class 4A, Region 8 – 35-9 over Westminster Christian to improve their mark to 3-1 on the year.

Batey, a senior who also plays safety, had 11 tackles with two stops for loss. He is the second Randolph player to earn Player of the Week honors in 2024, after Noah Gaunt earned the most votes in Week 2.

Bob Jones quarterback Johnny Jackson emerged victorious in a thrilling finish for second place in the poll. The senior threw for 196 yards and four TDs in a 50-23 win over Grissom to improve to 3-1 and 1-1 in Class 7A, Region 4. Jackson completed 13 of 23 passes and had one interception. He received 14.19 percent of the vote.

Fyffe’s Maddox Doss was third in the voting with 14.02 percent of the total. The sophomore, who is listed on Fyffe’s roster as a free safety, running back and quarterback, scored two special-teams touchdowns as the Class 3A No. 3 Red Devils defeated Region 8 opponent Asbury 63-0.

Doss returned two punts for scores – from 51 and 41 yards.
