Ajla Tomljanovic defeated at Korea Open as Beatriz Haddad Maia benefits from service problems

Brazilian star Beatriz Haddad Maia proved too strong for Anna Tomljanovic. She defeated the Australian 6-3, 6-4 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Seoul.

Haddad Maia broke Tomljanovic’s serve three times en route to the last eight of the Korea Open, where she will face Polina Kudermetova.

Tomljanovic was involved in a three-hour battle against South Korean wildcard player Su Jeong Jang in the previous round, which he eventually won 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3.

But she came up short against number 3: she made three double faults and only managed to convert one of the three break points.

Haddad Maia reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 event on Thursday along with Daria Kasatkina, Emma Raducanu and Viktoria Tomova.

Top-seeded Kasatkina defeated American Hailey Baptiste 6-4 6-2, while England’s Raducanu defeated eighth-seeded Yue Yuan 6-4 6-3, dishing out 11 aces.

Tomova was leading 7-5 4-1 against Amanda Anisimova when the American crashed out.

Besides Russian Kudermetova, her sister Veronika Kudermetova, Diana Schnaider and Marta Kostyuk are also among the last eight.
