Inter Milan vs AC Milan, Harry Kane chases a new record and 100% records in European competitions

The Derby della Madonnina is the highlight of the weekend, as Inter host rivals AC Milan at a sold-out San Siro on Sunday. This is a match that could have major implications.

Milan’s new manager, Paulo Fonseca, has won just one of his first four Serie A games, last week beating bottom side Venezia 4-0. The Italian press is increasingly covering the achievement.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports this, external described the relationship between Fonseca and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who returned to the club as a senior adviser in December, as “delicate”.

That is due to a combination of disappointing early results, including the Champions League defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday, and Ibrahimovic’s comments in the press.

“I am the boss and I am in charge, everyone else works for me,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sports Italia, external earlier this week.

But Italian football expert James Horncastle told the BBC Euro Leagues podcast, external that many people do not know exactly what Ibrahimovic’s role is at the club.

“He is not employed by the club, he is employed by the owner and that applies to the media and entertainment companies of RedBird Capital Partners,” Horncastle said.

“But Zlatan only seems to be interested in AC Milan and the fact that he lives in Milan, shows up at training and presents the players they have signed.

“Are you the CEO? A sporting director? A technical director? What decisions do you make and what responsibilities do you have? If you tell us, we can assess you.

“It’s difficult for Paulo Fonseca to get time and patience from the fans and the media – people look at the club and there are all these ambiguities. People look at the club and say: who makes the decisions here? And should we trust them?

“It only makes Paulo Fonseca’s job more difficult if you don’t know exactly how the club is run.”

Milan are tenth, but only three points behind Inter in third place. Inter have won two of their first four games and drawn twice and go into the derby with an encouraging draw against Manchester City (0-0).

“It will be a derby. We all know what it means for the club and our fans,” said Inter boss Simone Inzaghi. “We are facing a team of great value.”

Antonio Conte will have the chance to lead his Napoli side to top spot on Saturday when they visit Juventus, where Conte won five Serie A titles as a player and three more as a manager.

Napoli are aiming for a fourth straight win after their opening day defeat at Hellas Verona, while Romelu Lukaku has also been in form with two goals and two assists in just two games since his pre-deadline move from Chelsea.

However, it is Udinese who are the surprise leaders in Serie A after four games, having narrowly avoided relegation last season.

On Sunday they visit Roma, who on Wednesday made Daniele de Rossi the first managerial casualty in the Italian top division this season after the club failed to win any of their opening four league games.
