Angela Rayner destroyed by Susanna Reid in furious tirade against stammering Reeves | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Susanna responded to the row during an interview with Rachel Reeves, asking the Chancellor of the Exchequer why Labour’s actions were different to those of the previous government, referring to a tweet Ms Rayner posted in 2021.

The tweet read: “Why do you think you’re @BorisJohnson telling working class people to trust their own efforts, while you go to Tory donors with a begging bowl to pay for your new posh wallpaper and moan about how you can’t live on your £150,000 salary? Disgusting.”

Susanna asked: “What’s the difference between Boris Johnson asking donors to pay for wallpaper and Labour MPs asking donors to pay for holidays and clothes?”

Ms Reeves defended the Deputy Prime Minister, claiming: “There were issues with transparency around the donations which were not properly declared at the time.”

Susanna interrupted: “Angela Rayner made no mention of transparency in that tweet. Angela Rayner specifically said you’re telling working class people to trust their own efforts while you’re going around with a begging bowl to donors, nothing about transparency or declarations. What’s different about it when Labour MPs do it than when Tory MPs do it?”

Ms Reeves responded by insisting that Labour must now hold itself to the “highest standards” when making decisions on spending and conflict of interest issues.

Earlier in the programme, Susanna hit out at Ms Rayner and the Labour Party for their actions. “It smacks of hypocrisy because the Labour Party blamed the Tories and said we would be different,” she told Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire.
