North Penn Athletic Hall of Fame adds 11 inductees to this year’s induction class

The 2024 North Penn Alumni Athletic Association Hall of Fame class will be inducted on Saturday, September 28 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Below you will find the 11 newcomers, the year they graduated, their main sport(s) and their achievements.

Franz and Lisa Wagner, 1981 and ’82, tennis

Franz was a three-time singles runner-up in the Bux-Mont League (1979-81) before going on to play for the U.S. Naval Academy.

Sister Lisa twice finished fourth at the District One championships in singles and was named All-Bux-Mont three times after placing second in the boys’ singles team as a freshman in 1979. She then attended Cornell.

Franz and Lisa became district champions in mixed doubles in 1980 and state runners-up.

Tim McKeever, 2006, swimming, water polo

McKeever swam on the Knights’ 2003 and ’04 state championship teams, won the 2006 Danehower Award, won the 500-meter freestyle at the ’06 district meet and was a five-time NISCA All-American. In water polo, he played on the 2004 state title team. He excelled in swimming at Duke.

Duncan Zeiders, 2007, golf

Zeiders was a two-time state qualifier and a first-team All-Suburban One League selection in golf in 2006. He played collegiately at Lehigh.

Lynda Kwon, 2008, wave

Kwon finished fourth at the 2007 PIAA Championships after earning All-SOL golf honors. She was a team captain and an All-Ivy League selection at Columbia.

Sean Gentry, 2009, indoor and outdoor track

Gentry was the 2009 PTFCA indoor state champion in the long jump and a member of the Knights’ 2008 and ’09 outdoor track district championship teams. He competed in track and field at Kutztown and won the PSAC indoor high jump title in 2010.

Brad Miles, 2010, cross country, track cycling

Miles was the 2009 PIAA Class AAA state cross country champion, Foot Locker Northeast Regional winner, Gatorade PA Cross Country Runner of the Year and a three-time first-team All-State selection (2007-09). He ran on the Knights’ 2007 and ’08 state title teams, and helped the 2008 and ’09 Knights win district outdoor track championships. In college, he was Baylor’s cross country runner of the decade for the 2010s.

Eric Ruth, 2009, baseball

Ruth compiled a 20–1 record at North Penn, highlighted by a complete-game, six-hitter in a 3–1 victory over Parkland for the 2009 Class 4A state championship. He struck out 202 batters in 138⅓ innings during his final two high school seasons. After pitching at Winthrop, he advanced to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization and was a 2015 Eastern League all-star with the Double-A Trenton Thunder.

Meghan (McGovern) Lawrence

She was the first PIAA girls cross country champion in school history, setting a course record of 18 minutes, 28 seconds at Hershey in 2011 en route to being named Intell Runner of the Year. She was also the school’s first three-time girls cross country state medalist and a three-time first-team All-State selection (2009-11). She ran in the 2011 indoor state champion distance medley relay and excelled in track and field for William & Mary.

Tim McDermott, 1991, Lifetime Achievement Award

McDermott has held senior leadership roles with the Eagles, Sixers and Union, among other professional franchises, during a 25-year career in sports administration. He became president of the Union in 2019 and led the stadium naming rights for Subaru Park in Chester a year later. McDermott played football for North Penn and was a kicker/punter at Cornell.

Linda Hallman-Law, 1991, Special Recognition

Hallman-Law served as the school’s athletics and activities secretary for 40 years. She worked with four athletic directors, beginning with Don Ryan, before retiring earlier this year. She also had numerous other responsibilities, including being an advisor to the Key Club and maintaining the memorial honoring North Penn graduates who lost their lives in the U.S. military.
