Burglar naked from the waist down stands over sleeping couple’s bed, says ‘shoot me’ when ordered to leave. Husband obeys.

A burglar, naked from the waist down, stood over the bed of a sleeping couple and shouted “shoot me” as he was ordered to leave his home in northern St. Louis County, Missouri.

The burglar’s wish was indeed the husband’s command.

St. Louis County District Attorney Wesley Bell said in a statement to KDSK that “Missouri law clearly gives homeowners the right to protect themselves, particularly when they are on their property.”

Cedric Marshall, 47, walked through the couple’s unlocked back door in the Hanley Hills neighborhood around 5 a.m. last Tuesday, KDSK-TV reported, citing court documents.

“Mr. Marshall was standing over the man and woman half naked at the time and that woke up the homeowners,” Major Ron Martin of the North County Police Cooperative told the station. Specifically, Marshall was naked from the waist down, KMOV-TV reported.

The husband “ordered him to leave,” KDSK reported, citing court documents.

But Marshall “attacked the homeowner and told him to shoot me,” KDSK added, citing a court document.

Police told KDSK that as the two men struggled, the homeowner shot Marshall once in the chest.

KMOV, citing the charging documents, noted that the suspect fell to the ground and said, “Okay man, don’t shoot me again,” the charging documents said.

Police told KMOV that the victim again ordered Marshall out of the house, and he complied. According to KDSK, Marshall — who weighs 225 pounds — collapsed in the family’s backyard.

Police responded to the 7900 block of Bloom Drive to investigate a reported home invasion and shooting, KMOV reported. They found Marshall in the backyard with a gunshot wound.

Major Martin told KDSK regarding Marshall that “we found his pants on their porch.”

Neither the couple nor their 5- and 10-year-old children were injured, KDSK reported. Marshall also left a trail of blood in the couple’s home.

Investigators did not know at the time why the suspect, who lives about six miles away in Wellston, targeted that family’s home, KDSK reported.

St. Louis County District Attorney Wesley Bell said in a statement to KDSK that “Missouri law clearly gives homeowners the right to protect themselves, particularly when on their property.”

Marshall has been hospitalized, KDSK reports.

St. Louis County prosecutors charged Marshall with first-degree burglary and assault, KMOV reported. He was being held on $250,000 cash-only bail, KDSK noted.
