Concurso de Elegancia Costa del Sol turns Marbella into Hypercar heaven

Last weekend, hypercars, restomods and unicorn classics gathered in Marbella for the Concurso de Elegancia Costa del Sol. An event that Classic Driver of course could not miss.

Marbella has long been known as a jet-set hotspot, ever since Alfonso von Hohenlohe first invited friends to what was then a small fishing village. What followed were eccentric parties at the world-famous Marbella Club, the rest is history. To this day, Marbella is a place where extravagant cars feel at home. When the Concurso de Elegancia Costa del Sol takes place, however, the car obsession in this sunny location reaches an all-time high.

Since 2017, car broker and service provider Magna Supercars has been inviting flamboyant guests to a spectacular car show at the eponymous golf course. This year, the Concurso de Elegancia Costa del Sol exceeded all expectations. Instead of limiting it to a one-day event, the organizers invited hypercar and classic car owners on a scenic drive through the winding roads of the Sierra Blanca, including a stop in the picturesque town of Ronda. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly a hot lap at the private Ascari racing club.

Like Monterey Car Week, the event concluded with a Concours of Elegance. For the first time, the Concurso de Elegancia Costa del Sol took place on the prestigious grounds of the exclusive La Zagaleta Country Club. Around 20 hypercars and unique creations from the restomod universe competed for the coveted Best of Show title.

The class dubbed “The Individualists” included such automotive wonders as the unique RUF Bergmeister, the AGTZ Twin Tail, and the Fioravanti Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. This diverse selection highlighted the growing importance and interest in restomods. The winning car in this class was the RUF Bergmeister, followed by the AGTZ Twin Tail, which took home the honors as second in class.

The hypercar field offered everything you could possibly dream of. Ferrari’s finest was on full display, with models ranging from the F40 and Daytona SP3 to the Enzo. The Cavallino Rampante was indeed well represented. Bugatti’s modern history was also celebrated, with several Veyron models and two Chirons, including the striking 110 Ans anniversary edition. The minimalist McLaren Speedtail also got plenty of attention. However, it was the Mercedes-AMG One that stole the show. This particular model is the first of its kind in Spain and it was no surprise that it was voted Best in Show in the hypercar class.

All in all, the new format of the Concurso de Elegancia Costa del Sol raises the question of what else the organizers have in store for the 2025 edition.
