Officer Shot Immediately After Performing PIT on Fleeing Suspects

As a police officer, you are confronted with some of the worst elements in society. Unfortunately, you never know who will suddenly turn violent during a routine situation. But even a risky maneuver like a PIT can dramatically increase the danger and make things even more sinister. That is exactly what this New Mexico police officer experienced in the city of Edgewood after he placed two suspects in a gas station bathroom for alleged drug use.

Watch as a police officer rams a fleeing Nissan into a church.

First, the officer responds to a call from the gas station attendant who suspected that a woman who was sitting in the bathroom for a long time was actually on drugs. She claims that there was burnt aluminum foil in the trash can after the woman finally came out. If you know, you know.

With that information in hand, the officer pulled up behind the Cadillac occupied by the woman and her male friend. He had probably done this dozens of times, possibly hundreds of times, or even more. But this time was a little different than most, because the man in the driver’s seat put the car in gear and rammed the officer’s police car.

After making a 15-point turn, the driver jumped the curb and drove the Cadillac through an empty lot to the road. The trooper was able to chase them down and caught up to them. He then performed a beautiful PIT to spin the Caddy out.

And then all hell breaks loose.

Literally one second into the bodycam footage, one of the suspects begins shooting at the officer, reportedly with an AK-style rifle. The officer returns fire with his gun, but is struck in the neck. He eventually retreats behind a barrier on the other side of the road and the suspects flee on foot.

Shot in the neck, the officer retrieves his AR from the trunk in case the suspects return to finish him off. Still, the man is clearly in pain.

Luckily, the officer in this video didn’t die and the suspects didn’t come back to have another shootout. Instead, thanks to a tip, SWAT was able to pay the man and woman a nice visit at their home. You see that and the male suspect whines about how he’s basically the victim in the whole situation. Predictable.

Due to the graphic nature of this video, it is age-restricted, meaning you’ll have to watch it on YouTube. This will give anyone who isn’t a cop a better understanding of how quickly things can get downright deadly during a tactical vehicle intervention, and why those wearing the badge act so aggressively when ordering suspects out of their cars.
