Gunnar Helm will challenge Colston Loveland for the 2025 NFL Draft TE1

Michigan’s Colston Loveland held the title of the top-rated tight end of the 2025 NFL Draft all summer and all season. However, Texas Football tight end Gunnar Helm is ready to give Loveland a run for his money.

Helm entered the season with just 192 yards and two touchdowns from the year before and has already surpassed that total in just four games. Helm became quarterback Quinn Ewers’ favorite target and burst onto the scene against the Wolverines, racking up 98 yards and a touchdown on seven catches in Ann Arbor. He had a huge catch and run the following week against UTSA, where he interfered with a defender in the open field before Ewers left the game with an injury.

Looking at his tape, it’s hard to pick a hole in Helm’s game as well. He has soft, gentle hands as he reels in the football. He plays with fluidity and poise entering and exiting his breaks as a receiver, he is one of the better blocking tight ends in the class and has proven capable of running routes to any level of the field and from a variety of formations to walk. .

We talk about Helm and his potential development to become the best tight end in the class on the latest episode of the Daft on Draft Podcast:

You can listen to the full episode where we build a tight end prospect using only 2025 NFL Draft prospects on Apple, Spotify and YouTube. And yes, Loveland is used in this practice and is a great prospect. Even though Helm may have a little favor in my eyes.

There’s still plenty of ball game left for both Helm and Loveland to continue to stake their claim as the best tight end in the class, but it’s no longer a runaway race in the Michigan man’s favor.
