The New York Knicks are acquiring big man Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round draft pick via the Detroit Pistons, according to Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

It will take more to get the trade done, according to The Athletic’s Fred Katz.

The Knicks and Timberwolves need a third team to make a Julius Randle/Donte DiVincenzo/Karl-Anthony Towns trade happen. Both teams are above the first platform, meaning neither is allowed to take more money than is spent in a deal.

Needless to say, this was stunning NBA news Friday night, and Towns himself had a response.

And others were shocked or bewildered for various reasons.

The #Knicks should always trade Randle for a center. I thought it would be someone like Stewart though…what a stunner. #Wolves had a huge second apron, tax issues with Towns’ contract. He probably disappeared at some point. But this soon? Wow. https://t.co/8PmurHi1UH

NBA fans won’t have to wait long to see the players in action for new teams as the regular season starts in less than a month. Additionally, the first regular-season game between Minnesota and New York will take place on December 19 in Minneapolis.
