Money blog: ‘People ignored him’ – Danny Dyer sells Big Issue magazine | British news

Every week we ask one of the best chefs in the country to choose them Cheap food where they live and at home.

We’ve spoken to chefs across the UK, from Northern Ireland to Norfolk – and this week our focus is on London.

The capital is home to 80 Michelin-starred restaurants, almost half of Britain’s total, so instead of the usual Wednesday, we’re spreading it out over the week, with nine of the city’s most celebrated chefs sharing their providing recommendations before we round up all our London Chefs of the Year on Saturday.

This morning we speak to the finalist of the Great British Menu 2020 Kerth Gumbs, chef at Fenchurch in Sky Garden.

Hello Kerth, wWhat’s your favorite cheap meal to cook at home when you’re home for the evening?

My go-to is ramen with fried salmon, tender broccoli and boiled curry eggs. The ingredients for this come to less than £15 for two – I’m always satisfied after this meal and happy with my spend, and there’s room to have a nice bottle of wine as a treat.

A tip when making ramen noodles at home is to add the flavor powders to a bowl with an egg yolk and a little bit of the ramen cooking water. Beat well and add this mixture to your hot ramen to create a creamy texture, similar to that of a carbonara, giving a truly luxurious mouthfeel.

Can you tell us your favorite places in London where you can get a meal for two for under £40?

My favorite cheap eats in London is something of a hidden gem: Bang Bang Oriental Food Hall in Edgware. I first came across this dining room style when I was living in Singapore, and it really is a must-try – you’ll be enchanted by the wide range of cuisines all under one roof, with Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Singaporean just to name a few.

I take my kids and partner there often, and our usual order is special fried rice, stir-fried noodles, and sweet and sticky beef. The portions are also huge, so it’s great for sharing – after I order these three dishes, I usually have some money left over to drink some bubble tea.

I also love the recently opened Mishky in Hux, from chef Jorge Pacheco, which serves a delicious selection of shared starters. The ceviches are highly recommended. I happily share two ceviches, two sides and two cocktails and am happy with an early dinner within the £40 budget – it’s fresh and not too heavy.
