The Last Of Us Part 2 on PS5 Pro looks even more impressive in action

When the PS5 Pro launches in November, dozens of games will benefit from the increase in hardware power, including Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2. Already a visually impressive game on the base model PS5 – which itself was a major upgrade from the original PS4 – version – The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 Pro aims for a consistent 4K 60fps experience. As Digital Foundry shows, it looks like Naughty Dog is hitting this target.

Due to a technical glitch, the channel showed new images of TLOU2 on PS5 Pro. Using the PS5 Pro hardware in combination with Sony’s PSSR upscaling software, TLOU2 is upsampled from an internal resolution of 1440p at 60fps to achieve the 4K target, ultimately creating a sharper-looking and smoother game compared to the softer graphics seen on base PS5 consoles.

Some of the highlights here included more realistic hair effects, improved environmental details, and a deeper depth of field, among other improvements. While watching a YouTube video isn’t indicative of the final quality compared to watching the enhanced game up close and personal on a real gaming TV or monitor, the differences are still very apparent.

“Overall, I would say that the PS5 Pro version of The Last of Us Part 2 appears to be successful, even in this pre-release state. It delivers a believable-looking 4K image with excellent detail and reasonably good image stability, at near-flawless quality. 60fps update,” explains Digital Foundry’s Oliver Mackenzie.

There are still some technical issues in this build, as Digital Foundry noted, though these will likely escape the notice of all but the most observant players. Interestingly, this version of the game will also include the old PS5 fidelity and performance modes, as well as an option to unlock the frame rate entirely on VRR panels.

If you’re looking for a different game to experience with improved graphics, there’ll be plenty to choose from when the PS5 Pro launches. Games like Gran Turismo 7 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be some of the upgraded titles you can try out on the $700 console, and even Microsoft’s Diablo 4 is getting a PS5 Pro upgrade.
